Attending brain training classes led by Phyllis Strupp over the past 10 years has enriched my life and added years to it. I am 94 years old.
The idea of balancing my brain as we would our financial holdings, described in the book Better with Age, was very appealing to me. I took it seriously, and tried activities here at my senior living community that I had no interest in, just to work my less active brain areas. I attended drawing class and discovered not only that I enjoyed it but that I had talent. I began listening mindfully to music as I attended the opera, symphony, and Pops concerts.

While our bodies are made to eventually wear out, our brains are not and can constantly be rejuvenated. The buzzword of “neuroplasticity” is the key and we hear more about this all the time. Do yourself a favor and start training your brain.
The author shows us how to maintain and improve our brain function as we age in a fun, engaging and challenging way – through learning new things.

Ms. Strupp’s book is a delightful read of many ways to sharpen your memory even as you grow older. I especially enjoyed the focus on ‘use it or lose it’…. so true about both your mental AND physical health.
As we get ready for retirement we think of financial assets, and the preservation of them. This book reminds us of the importance of building brain assets for any age in the family. I especially enjoy reading this book and getting a sense of the author and her wonderful sense of humor. It’s up to you but I say ….. get BETTER with AGE by reading this!!

This informative book and train-the-trainer program were helpful resources for a non-clinical person interested in personally getting better with age.
Also, I’m in a professional role where this knowledge can be shared with all employees and the elder community which we serve. The engagement questions at the end of each chapter gives the reader an opportunity to actually think, and use our brains, supporting the premise of “use it or lose it.”

As an employee at a senior living community, my thinking and living has been transformed by reading and absorbing the wisdom of Better with Age and its unique approach to brain training. I am challenged to explore activities outside of my comfort zone to boost neuroplasticity in areas of my brain that need a nudge and more action!
This is a hopeful, motivating message. Brain Wealth brain training workshops and programs give us the tools and techniques we need to offer opportunities for meaningful engagement to residents in all levels of care.

In Better With Age I was fascinated that the Brain Wealth Concept was neatly articulated by Strupp, an MBA and financial services expert, who turned her talents to ways we can age better with age mentally as we rebalance our brain portfolio of assets.
The technical terminology is balanced with real life techniques to help become a brain over-achiever. What I thought might be too technical was practical, useful, and extremely relevant. Sign me up for neuroplasticity and some chess. An excellent book.
